Keeping up With Your Child's Checkup Schedule

Find out why wellness checkups are so important for your growing child.

From the moment your baby is born you want to make sure that they have everything, and that also means the best chances at leading a healthy, long life. To do that, you need to have a dependable, trustworthy pediatrician in Chicago, IL, that you feel confident can provide quality medical care for your little one until they become an adult. One of the best ways to keep your child healthy is by keeping up with their regular wellness checkups.

When does my child need to come in for wellness checkups?

Our Chicago, IL, pediatricians aren’t just here to treat problems once they arise. Our team is also here to monitor your child’s health and development to prevent certain issues from happening in the first place. This is one reason why these routine well-child visits are important for kids of all ages.

You will bring your child in to the office within the first week after their birth. From there on out you should bring them in,

  • Under 6 weeks old
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months

After 24 months, your child should come into the office every year until they turn 20 years old. Of course, if your child develops any symptoms or issues between visits you should still come into the office or give us a call.

We particularly understand that for first-time parents, your baby’s first ear infection or fever can be scary. That’s why having a pediatrician that you can call for immediate advice can put your mind at ease.

What does a well-child checkup involve?

Your child’s checkups may vary a bit depending on their age; however, most involve,

  • Recording your child’s height and weight
  • Checking vital signs and blood pressure
  • Checking hearing and vision
  • Performing a comprehensive physical exam
  • Vaccinations (when necessary; talk to your pediatrician about your child’s vaccination schedule)
  • Additional screenings or tests

If parents have any questions or concerns about their child’s health, it’s important that they bring these questions with them. We are happy to answer questions about everything from breastfeeding and behavioral issues to proper diet and exercise regimens.
